Metals

Metals take up more than 50% of the periodic table. Most of them, with the exception of Hg (mercury), are solid.

Everything that is not grey

Some of the characteristics of the metals are:

  • They are very reactive
  • They are also good at conducting energy
  • Their ability to be easily mixed.

Fun Fact

Metalloids

Metalloids

Right in the middle of the periodic table, squished in between the metals and the non-metals, are the metalloids. They share properties wit both the metals and the non-metals.

Some of the characteristics that they have is:

  • They can conduct some electricity, but they are not the best choice
  • They look like metal, but they are not as durable
  • On the periodic table, it shows as a stair case.

Fun Fact

They are semi-conductors.

Non-metals

This is the last of the groups. Most of the non-metals are not good conductors of electricity. More than half of them are either a gas or liquid (Bromine)

Some of the characteristics that they have is:

  • They are not good conductors of electricity
  • They are EASILY breakable in their solid position
  • When they get under high temptress, they start to show some metallic properties.
